Former Ward IV Alderman Steve Meyers Endorses Mary Jane Van Buskirk

Former Ward IV Alderman Steve Meyers Endorses
Mary Jane Van Buskirk

I'll weigh in on Mary Jane as someone who served as Alderman in Ward 4 and actually ran against her in the Alderman race in 2015. I ran on the "2 people in the same household" doorstep campaign talking point heavily. While that idea might have tipped the votes in my favor then, I can truthfully say since I still closely follow the BOA activity she and her husband Bill DO NOT line up automatically on all legislation brought before the Board. If you know Bill and her personally as I do being my neighbors for 37 years, there are days they don't agree if the sun is shining.

It's all a matter of public record and one can view the archived meeting videos. Now, can Mary Jane be sharp and some say abrasive if she digs in on something she feels strongly about that has a possible adverse affect on Raytown and it's citizens? She'd be the 1st one to not apologize for what I prefer to call PASSION! It's because she CARES!

I probably had a similar reputation and that comes with sleepless nights and days where City business trumped your day job because of your sense of oath obligation.

We have several examples of sitting Alderman who either serve their own agenda or are just mailing it in and collecting their monthly stipend without any recent record of accomplishment or serving duty. Here is what I have observed of Mary Jane and why I'll continue to support her and assist with anything she needs help with.

She is tireless in working for her constituents when trying to solve an issue or problem when it is within her ability. She is not afraid to hold someone accountable to deliver expected services to the tax paying citizens. At the end of the day that is EXACTLY her sworn duty. She has delivered the promise and if some view her as maybe not being PC well I've described politics in this format and Raytown certainly is no different.
